Laura Davies of Newport, Shropshire, a Year 13 boarder at Moreton Hall school, is one of just a handful of English students to be awarded the prestigious English Speaking Union’s Scholarship for 2011/12.
The result of an application and rigorous interview, the scholarship gives Laura 3 terms at the Tabor Academy in Massachusetts, USA. There she will study American literature, language and have the chance to travel throughout the United States.
‘I’ve been very lucky to be given this scholarship. Seeing first hand how American schools work and sampling American life is such a great opportunity, I can’t wait,’ says Laura.
Head of Spoken English at Moreton, Merriel Halsall-Williams, comments: ‘This is an outstanding achievement by Laura and will be a life-changing gap year opportunity. We are delighted for her.’
