Moreton_Hall_Subway_competition_2A Moreton Hall team of Year 13 business women, Siân Jones, Kate Pumphrey and Laura Mercer has won the finals of the SUBWAY® brand’s Design a Sub challenge held at The Pavilion in Birmingham on December 3rd. The team of Year 13 students presented a Dragons’ Den style pitch to a panel of SUBWAY® brand experts who were ‘unanimous in their decision’ that the girls’ concept, Jack of all Flavours, was a clear winner. Their Subs will be launched in SUBWAY® stores nationwide in February 2014.

“All of these girls study Business Studies and – critically – were part of the school’s unique ‘Moreton Enterprises‘ team last year,” explains Business Studies teacher, Karen Booth who supported the girls through the competition. “Moreton Enterprises is an in-house group of business run by the girls, for the girls, which gives them an outstanding understanding of business. This has been the starting point for many very successful business-women, and it looks like these girls are set to be part of that list in the future.”

The competition, run by the SUBWAY® brand, is new to the region and asked young entrepreneurs to design and market a brand new 6-inch Sub, based on the theme of #heartfeltsubs. Their pitch included detailed market research, a competitive analysis, an innovative product concept, and detailed costings.

“It has been a fabulous experience,” explained the girls. “We have thoroughly enjoyed every step of the process and can’t wait to see our products in the Subway stores in the new year.”
