Moreton_Hall_editor_EconomistThree hundred business guests from across Shropshire sat spellbound at last week’s annual Business Lunch at Moreton Hall near Oswestry.

The speaker was former student of the school, Zanny Minton Beddoes, now the Economics Editor of the Economist Magazine, based in the USA.  She spoke about the world economy, how it has evolved since the time when she left Shropshire and Moreton Hall in the mid 1980s, and where she sees it heading.

From emerging markets to the EU, immigration to interest rates, she spoke with awe-inspiring clarity and conviction, holding the audience in the palm of her hand.  Questions were fired at her on a diverse range of subjects to which she bounced back impressive answers with ease and agility.

The Sixth Formers of Moreton Enterprises – the school’s in-house set of businesses run by the girls, for the girls –  also spoke about their first forays into the world of business.  They too showed the beginnings of the kind of skills and talents which have taken Zanny Minton Beddoes on to such impressive success in her career.  In the words of one audience member, John Simpson: ‘The whole event was very professionally organised and together with the impressive presentation from the Moreton Enterprises Team, sets Moreton apart from its peer group.
