The Moreton Hall intermediate team have qualified for the regional finals of the national ‘Rotary Youth’ Speaks competition. The team spoke eloquently and passionately on the topic of ‘Today’s Technology’, in turn impressing the judging panel and securing first place. All Rotary Youth Speaksthree girls put forward an interesting argument, illustrated their point clearly and concluded successfully in just a six minute time-frame. Moreton Hall’s intermediate team’s chairperson was Cordelia Harpin, the speaker was Charlotte Brown and the vote of thanks was delivered by Emma Vivan, who are all in Year 9.

In the senior competition, two Moreton teams competed, speaking lucidly on the topics ‘Antibiotic Resistance’ and ‘How Lucky We Are To Be Alive Now’. This was a closely fought category as the judges deliberated for 50 minutes to decide their chosen winner. In the end the two Senior Moreton teams places 2nd and 3rd, an excellent result.

‘Youth Speaks’ is a Rotary competition that seeks to encourage public speaking and presentation skills in young people.  These skills are necessary for students to develop now to then utilise effectively in all areas of life. The topics discussed are intriguing and the speakers’ opinions, enlightening. The Moreton Hall intermediate team will compete in the regional finals which will be held on the 3rd March 2017 at Glyndwr University, Wrexham.
