Moreton Hall U15 Cricket TeamMoreton came an impressive second in the UK, having qualified for the School Magazine U15 Girls’ National Cricket Finals Day on September 7th.

In their semi final against Shenfield Comminity College, they won the toss and chose to bat. Head of Sport, Kate Simlett-Groves reports: “We had a very positive start however in the 3rd and 4th over lost a few crucial wickets. Then Milly Home came into bat and steadied the innings with Tallulah Blackman.  At the end of the 20 overs we had posted 122 runs for 8 wickets. Shenfield started well which continued for a few overs until we managed to take some wickets through the bowling of Freya Beasley, Ellie Mason and Lottie Clarke. The game went down to the last over where Shenfield needed 5 runs off 2 balls. Freya bowling managed to get a dot ball followed by one run which meant we won and were in the final!”

In the final Moreton played last year’s champions, Brighton College. Kate Simlett-Groves continues: “We fielded first and our bowling was a little off in the first few overs. We managed to take some crucial wickets, however they posted a big score of 143 runs. We lost two early wickets which set us back, however Milly Home and again Tallulah Blackman came in and settled the innings. Milly was outstanding and brought us to just 16 runs to win. This was not meant to be as in the 18th over she lost her wicket but had top scored on 64. We managed to stay in until the last ball of the last over where Sophie Barlow – in an attempt to close down the runs – was run out.”

The team players were outstanding.  Milly Home was not only the top run scorer for the day with 105 runs, but was also the top run scorer for the entire competition.

Approximately 35 teams entered this competition nationally this year.
