Over one third of pupils at The Mount School in York achieved eight or more A*-A grades in GCSE results released today. Latin students scored 100% A*-A grades with Religious Studies, French, Music and Art students scoring 100% A*-B grades.
In Sciences, Technology and Maths (STEM subjects), two thirds of all candidates achieved A*-B grades while in Humanities subjects 72% of candidates achieved A*-B grades.
Frances Hearld gained 7 A*s and 2As and has already set her sights on taking Geography, French, Biology and Latin for A-Levels. Frances will also take her Grade 8 cello exams this year. Celia Edwards, who achieved 4A*s and 7As is interested in taking History at university, intends to study History, English, French and German at A-Level. Yorkshire county netballer Ella Latham gained 5A*s and 5As while her twin Scarlett achieved 4A*s and 5As.
In September, Celia, Ella and Scarlett will travel next month to meet Nobel Peace laureates the Dalai Lama (1989) and Jody Williams (1997) at the PeaceJam Student Leadership Conference in Brussels. The Mount is recognised as a School of Excellence by the international PeaceJam Foundation.
Phoebe Delamere, whose sister Frances did well in her A-Levels last week and got into her university of choice, took home 2A*s and 6As. Phoebe is studying English, Geography and Psychology at A-Levels. Her proud mother Hilary said, “I’m just delighted. Phoebe couldn’t have worked harder and she really deserves this.”
Boarders also did very well with Jessica Tse from Hong Kong achieving 8A*s and 3As, Yeonjea Lee of Korea, 8A*s and 2As and Harrogate Music Festival winners Tamara Demirchyan from Russia achieving 4A*s and 6As and Anastasia Shevaleva, also from Russia, achieving 1A* and 5As.
