Girls at The Mount Junior School have achieved 100% Distinctions for a respected national drama examination board, the School announced today.
The students, in years 3, 4, 5 and 6, all scored Distinctions in their examinations for the London Academy of Music and the Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), a feat which the School had previously achieved in 2012, just months after becoming York’s only all girls’ school for under 11s.
LAMDA’s Head of Examinations, Guy Norris, said “To pass a LAMDA examination is a significant achievement for any learner. For every candidate in a school to achieve a Distinction is a remarkable achievement. I congratulate all the learners at The Mount Junior School, their teachers and their supportive parents on a superb result.”
Rachel Capper, the Head of The Mount Junior School, said, “The girls performed their pieces for parents and the Senior School during our annual drama showcase, called ‘I See A Voice’. They showed such confidence and ease in their performance that it was a joy to watch. I am so pleased for each of the girls that the examiner felt their work was of the highest quality. Creative arts help the girls gain valuable tools to communicate their thoughts and ideas and develop their imagination. Junior School girls have access to the same facilities and teaching resources as our Senior School, and these high standards help to nurture their own creativity.”
