Rowan Palmour, 15, from The Mount School will compete for the North East at the 2013 School Games to be held in Sheffield from 12 – 15 September. Her father, Simon Palmour, said "This is a massive event with an athletes' village, opening ceremony and so on. It is amazing to be selected from the entire North East region."

Rowan, who excels in track and field, was last year’s Yorkshire U15 High Jump champion, an honour previously held by Olympian Jessica Ennis.

Principal Julie Lodrick said "It is a really fantastic achievement. We are all incredibly proud of Rowan and will be with her every step of the way."

The 2013 School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK's elite young athletes of school age, run by the Youth Sport Trust. The inaugural finals in 2012 were held in the Olympic Park. The 2013 School Games seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting which not only provides elite young sports people with the opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest levels, but encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport.
