A talented pupil from Mount St Mary’s College ‘closed his eyes, drew back the curtain’ and his dreams came true when he was picked to star in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
William Hall, 11, from Killamarsh, was part of the show’s choir when the touring production, starring Keith Jack from the BBC’s Any Dream Will Do show, came to Chesterfield.
The Year 7 pupil from the Derbyshire school performed in five shows at the Winding Wheel Theatre before the show headed off to Italy.
William’s mum, Jane, said: “William’s love for drama and being in shows first started when he was at Barlborough Hall School and he had to sing a nursery rhyme in a play when he was about seven years-old.
“When he went off stage everyone was commenting on how well he had done and he really enjoyed it so he enrolled at a part-time performing arts school, Stagecoach Sheffield and Chesterfield, which is based at Carterknowle Junior School on a Saturday morning.”
It was through Stagecoach that William was chosen to be part of the Joseph choir along with 27 other youngsters aged 7-16.
“The choir was on stage for the whole two-hour show and provided background music throughout as well as the well-known songs like Any Dream Will Do,” added Jane.
“It was a really active show and all the children did so well, I don’t know where William gets it from he definitely hasn’t got my singing voice!”
Lucy Kitchener, director of music at Mount St Mary’s, said: “It is fantastic William was picked to be part of the show, he is a real talent and we are all very proud of his successes on stage.”
