It will also be used by singers from the School’s three school choirs and specialist ensembles such as the Concert Band, Jazz Band and String Orchestra.

The Mount’s Music Department has a high profile in the local area having been involved in many local and national music festivals, concerts and events.

Director of Music at Mount St Mary’s College, Lucy Kitchener, said: ‘Many pupils at the Mount become involved in music. With so many options, there is something to accommodate all tastes, which is why we are delighted to open this new music studio and know that it will benefit lots of students.

‘From sport to art and music to science, the facilities at Mount St Mary’s are first class and provide pupils with every opportunity to develop and leave the school as confident, responsible and well-rounded men and women.’

In 2011, two of the college choirs will be participating in the National Festival of Music for Youth, as well as a junior piano trio and the jazz band who will be premiering new works composed by pupils in the College. Mount St Mary’s will also host a series of music events this term including the Bellarmine Lunchtime Concerts, which feature advanced pupils, staff and local musicians, and a Spring Concert.

The school also offers music scholarships to promising and talented young people.
