Senior school pupils at King Edward’s Witley had their moment in the spotlight when they took to the stage this month to showcase their talents in a production of ‘A Shot in the Dark’, an adaptation of the famous comedy film originally directed by Blake Edwards and the second installment in The Pink Panther series.
The cast and crew included pupils from Year 9 through to Sixth Form and the production provided an ideal opportunity to not only promote the impeccable standard of acting at King Edward’s but also the School’s impressive Drama and Theatre Arts training capabilities, spanning mime, physical theatre, role play, stage combat, make-up, costume, technical theatre, lighting, sound and set design / build.
Jim Langan, Head of English and Drama, who adapted the play for the senior school pupils, says, “Our production aimed to celebrate the memorable, crazy and downright hilarious aspects of the ‘Pink Panther’ genre, while maintaining fidelity to a much loved and well recognised film. We have enjoyed sharing our interpretation of this classic comedy with the audience.”
The plot follows bumbling French detective, Inspector Clouseau, as he grasps his way in the dark to find out who committed a series of murders. Confounded by an exotic cast of suspects, Inspector Clouseau and his faithful sergeant, Hercule Lajoy attempt to rise to the challenge of solving a baffling series of crimes.
The curtain went up in the School’s Charter Hall on March 16th at 7.30pm and the production ran on March 17th and 18th with an additional matinee performance (at 2.30pm) on the final day.
