The Durham School Music Department presented a beautiful evening of music at the Spring Concert held on 10 May in the Chapel, all in aid of the Fraja Simpson Appeal.

The orchestra opened the evening with a rousing performance of 'The Dam Busters March' followed by 'Bolero' and 'I Got Rhythm'. The Junior Orchestra performed some contemporary pieces including the theme from the latest James Bond film 'Skyfall' (Adele).

The evening also included a piano duet by Francesca Brown and Alexandra Davies; The Dunelm Wind Quintet (Isaac Walton, flute; Anna Roberts, oboe; Graham Campbell, clarinet; Francesca Brown, horn; Lexy Powell, bassoon); Matthew Calvert played the first movement from Sonata No.3 in Eb (Allegro) on piano; the String Quartet (Alex Davies, Jo Heron, Jodie Cameron, Claudia George) played 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' from the Peer Gynt Suite and the Allepaca vocal ensemble took the audience to the short interval with 'Locus Iste' and 'Weeping'.

After the interval the audience were treated to the sounds of the Big Band; a vocal duet by Alicia Hudson and Zoe Jackson singing the 'Flower' duet; the Junior Choir with a gospel medley; Mark Race (voice and guitar) performing 'Good Friday'; The Brass Group (Alex Davies, Matthew Elliott, Alistair Richardson, Ben Pulman, Sam Palmer-Muttitt, Seb Robson); Lexy Powell (bassoon) and finishing with The Chapel Choir.
