St David’s College recently welcomed back a former pupil who arrived at the school in a navy helicopter.

Lieutenant Ben Daw landed on the school’s tennis courts in the £19m Merlin helicopter, who welcomed him as he arrived. He gave pupils a tour of the anti-submarine vehicle and saw his former teachers and Year 8 nephew Marley.

Steve Delaney, deputy head, said: “It was an exciting day and the pupils and staff really enjoyed seeing the helicopter and meeting the crew. I know that it was a wonderful surprise for Marley and his class were thrilled.

“The crew were excellent with the pupils and they were enthusiastic all day wearing their Royal Navy stickers and asking about careers in the military!”

Ben left the school in 2001 and studied Computer Science at Aberystwyth University, before being selected to join the Royal Navy in 2007 to train as a pilot.
