Northbourne Park School Wins ‘Runner Up’ prize in Kent Life Garden of the Year Awards

Northbourne Park Kent Life Garden Of Year AwardsOn Thursday the 18th September, four of Northbourne Park School’s leading Environmental Gardening Club pupils travelled to Hadlow College in Tunbridge Wells as one of three finalists in the Kent Life Primary Schools Garden of the Year Awards.

The environmental garden project started two years ago. The children wanted to design a garden where they could grow wild flowers to attract wildlife and bees, and to give the pupils a quiet area to read or talk. The garden has been a great success and is fully maintained by the children.

The children mixed with the great and the good of Kent’s gardening and the other finalists in both the children and adult category. Hadlow College and Kent Life laid on a fine tea in a beautiful marquee in the grounds.

Northbourne Park School came joint second, which we were very happy with. The garden that won was Whitstable Community College who richly deserved it as their garden was far older and more established than ours.

“The pupils loved their day out and were a credit to the school, behaving impeccably throughout. We will spend our £100 winnings on the garden, in particular, focusing on creating a small pond and who knows maybe next year we will apply again.”  said Sam Martindale
