Pupils from a top Derbyshire college were inspired to get creative with their career choices following a visit from an award winning novelist.

Lesley Glaister, a lecturer in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University and author of 13 novels, gave a career talk to Mount St Mary’s students.

It was part of the school’s new Teaching & Learning programme to help engage pupils with a variety of career choices so they can consider their future options.

She answered questions ranging from how she became a writer to whether personal experiences and research changed her ideas for the plots in her books.

Toby Leadbetter, Director of Teaching & Learning from Mount St Mary’s said: “It was a really informing talk and the pupils were very excited to meet with a published novelist, many came away quite inspired.”

Also attending the career talk was visiting pupils from a Wesleyan College in Australia.

Other speakers this term include experts from the world of advertising, media, TV, law, sports and politics.
