Two brothers from Oswestry School have won a prestigious art award run by the Hereford College of Art.

Oliver and Charlie Miller entered the Brian Hatton Young Artist Competition 2020. Charlie, aged 12, placed first with his portrait and was awarded a £50 prize and a £100 prize for Oswestry School. The judges loved the use of colour and how Charlie had used both painting and drawing to create his piece. They also felt the combination of both portraits was a great idea.

Charlie has now sold a total of 34 framed portrait paintings and has donated £160 to a children’s Charity. He has many more portraits and is planning another exhibition at the end of lockdown.

Oliver, aged 14, placed third and was awarded a £25 prize. The judges commented: “We really liked the combination of drawing and process with this piece. It has great use of foiling and strong use of bright colours.”

Sue Fensome, Head of Art, said: “Both Charlie and Oliver are continuing to grow and express themselves in their artwork. By entering competitions they are broadening their expertise and are proving to be very capable artists.”
