Two cyclists from Oswestry School took part in the 500km ‘London 2 Paris: Inspiring The Revolution Ride’ last month.

Current pupil Alistair Moss and Old Oswestrian Will Gough surpassed their target of £2,400 and so far the pair have raised £2,624.

They started the challenge at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich Park in London and from there spent four days making their way to the finish point at the Eiffel Tower. With four different speed groups, all levels of cyclist could participate – from beginners, to those who wanted thrilling time trials and challenging climbs.

Having cycled to Folkestone on the first leg, the boys boarded the Eurotunnel and headed to Calais having cycled an impressive 126km with a total climb of 1,177m.  After breakfast they travelled through the Somme region and the hills of Northern France. On the third day, the duo experienced a time trial section and a timed hill climb that tested their competitive nature and riding ability, before spending the night in Beauvais.

On the last day, all riders came together and rode as one into Paris. Arriving in the city with motorcycle outriders, they travelled up the cobbles to the Arc de Triomphe and then finished in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

Alistair said: “The ride was an amazing experience and one I would definitely do again next year. Cycling is a real passion of mine so to combine raising money for the Cure Lukaemia charity along with four days of travelling across some beautiful and challenging countryside was really unforgettable.”
