Pupils from Bellan House, Oswestry School’s Prep Department for pupils aged 4-11, arranged a fun run for the whole school around their Maes-y-Llan playing fields, part of the school’s glorious 50 acre site on the Welsh borders.  The run was in support of fellow pupil, Lola Kynaston-Evans, whose family are running the London marathon this weekend.  Pupils each paid £2 to enter the run  to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Head teacher, Karen Lentink, said “It makes me very proud that the pupils support and encourage each other in this way, and throughout the whole run, the older pupils were helping the younger ones which was wonderful to see.”

Oswestry School Tees Off for Golfing Success

Oswestry School has just launched a golf academy for interested pupils, under the guidance of PE teacher, Kevin Perry-Evans.  After an initial 6-week coaching programme with Richard Edwards, Golf Professional at Oswestry Golf Club, pupils will play fixtures against the Oswestry Junior section as well as other independent schools.

A team of three pupils took part in the Shropshire Schools Golf Championship last week, all performing well individually, with Daniel Haycocks (Form 1) coming 4th overall.  Daniel is a real success story, having only started playing golf in the last year, and has already secured a runner up place in the Junior Wales Open (U13) and has been selected to train with the Shropshire and Herefordshire County team.

Teacher, Kevin Perry- Evans has praised pupils’ enthusiasm and hard work to date, “I’m looking forward to developing opportunities for our school golfers, and have entered us into the Independent Schools Golf Association matchplay tournament starting in September.  Until then, we have professional training and lots of fixture opportunities to look forward to, really moving the school’s golf provision into a strong position for the future.”

Chemistry Olympiad

Oswestry School Upper Sixth Form pupil, Jenny Hu, has gained a silver award in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad. Her teacher, Emma Renwick, said “This is a challenging competition aimed at A-Grade, A-Level chemists so the standard is incredibly high, and it is testament to her ability and hard work that she has achieved a silver award.”
