A Year 10 pupil at Oswestry School has received his Bronze Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA).

Alex Iskauskas completed his Bronze award over the summer and has now received his certificate signed by Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. He had to work through challenges to earn a series of badges – citizen, worker, maker, entrepreneur and gamer – which earned him his Bronze award.

iDEA is a programme that helps people develop digital, enterprise and employability skills for free. Through a series of online challenges and events participants can win career-enhancing badges, unlock new opportunities and, ultimately, gain industry recognised awards that help them stand out from the crowd.

Michael Birchwood, computing teacher, said: “iDEA is a great initiative for people of all ages and I am delighted that Alex has achieved his first award. The Silver award was released in September and I now have several pupils who are keen to get involved. This award aspires to be the digital and enterprise equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and we are pleased to be part of a scheme that can help our pupils develop their skills”.
