An Oswestry School pupil has raised over £20,000 for Cancer Research in just 19 months.

Tom Evans decided to raise money for the charity as a thank you to the medical profession for providing high quality care, after his grandmother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The initial target of £5,000 was increased to £20,000 following a flurry of donations.

He began fundraising in May 2016 at the first agricultural show in Builth Wells where he showcased his Kerry Hill sheep and his dyed pink Cancer Research sheep at the Royal Welsh Spring Festival, which was filmed for a BBC2 Wales documentary. Midlands TV also filmed a piece on his fundraising efforts at the Burwarton Show, Shropshire.

In September 2017, the school directed all of its fundraising activities towards Tom’s £20,000 goal, with proceeds from the school’s Christmas Enterprise Fair and mufti day raising over £1,800.

Louise Aubrey, a representative from Cancer Research, accepted the cheque and gave a talk to pupils on how the money raised will be utilised.
