P1260913[1]Oswestry School Fifth Form pupil Jacob Tidridge has recently been accepted as an Under 17 member of the BMC (British Milers Club)  by running 800m in under 2:04:00 minutes.

The BMC is the premier middle distance athletics club in the country.  Through its racing program, training courses and coaching articles they aim to improve the world standing of UK Middle Distance running.  The club works in close partnership with UK Athletics in the organisation of its fixtures and courses and generous sponsorship from Nike allows the club to provide the services its members require.

Jacob began running at 8 years old when a sports coach noticed that he had a good, natural style.  He joined Oswestry Olympians and initially trained as a cross country runner.  By the time Jacob turned 11 he had won both the Shropshire and North Wales junior cross country leagues.

From here Jacob was selected to take part in a Shropshire development squad.  Here he moved away from cross country and focussed instead on track events even competing for Shropshire at long jump.  Jacob now trains in Shrewsbury with a group of runners who are all top eventers in their disciplines; 800m runners, triathletes and cross country runners.

Throughout the winter Jacob has been training hard and his aim is that by the end of the season, in September, he will run 800m in 2 minutes and also develop his 400m racing skills. Despite Jacob’s main distance bring 800m he is going to run some 400m and 200m races over the summer once his GCSE examinations are out of the way.
