Oswestry School pupils have raised the bar yet further in meeting the challenge of GCSEs and, in particular, the reformed GCSEs of English and Mathematics. An impressive 82% of papers were awarded A*-C or 9-4. And yet more pleasing is the number of high achieving students, with a third of all GCSE entries graded A* and A.
Outstanding individual top-grades-only performances included: Roisin Gambroudes (from Oswestry), William Hallworth-Cook (from Baschurch), Anjum Aarifa Khanom (from Newtown), Ananya Prashanth (from Slough), and Sean Wu (from China). Across the 56-strong yeargroup there were stories of individual success.
Julian Noad, Headmaster of Oswestry School said, ‘The unsettling background to this year’s results make them all the more pleasing to read. As ever, pupils have worked incredibly hard and one can only admire the commitment and determination of those young people who manage to achieve high grades across such a broad range of disciplines. Examination results at Oswestry School are well above the national average and impressive for a genuinely non-selective school.
I am delighted to say that the majority of students will be joining our Sixth Form which, as with the School overall, continues to grow in size and reputation. A-Level results were outstanding this year and serve to underline the overall excellence.’
