Oswestry Come Dancing

Oswestry School Come Dancing TrophyOswestry School’s Anti-Bullying Ambassadors arranged a highly successful ‘Oswestry Come Dancing’ fundraising event, where academic and boarding staff were invited to pair up and compete to be crowned winners of the glitter-ball trophy.

The competition was hotly contested by each staff pairing, conducting their practice and preparation very seriously and in the greatest secrecy!  There were some accomplished performances and the audience enjoyed a fantastic evening of entertainment.  The overall winners were Miss Laura Williams, Bellan House Head of Year 4 and Mr Andrew Heighway, Senior School maths teacher, who danced to Mambo Number 5.

Guinness World Record holder, Amy Hughes, who successfully completed 53 marathons in 53 days, joined the judging panel, and the evening raised over £600, half of which was donated to the Isabelle Lottie Foundation.

One of the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors involved, and Head Girl, Verity Bowen said “We launched the event with a surprise flash mob dance in front of the school and we worked hard to ensure the evening was a sell-out so we are really pleased it was such a success.”

School stalwart retires

Oswestry School Enid NunnerleyAfter 25 years of loyal service, Oswestry School nurse, Enid Nunnerley has retired.  She worked as the school nurse for the last six years of her employment, but had originally joined as Matron for the boys’ boarding house, Holbache in 1991.  She then transferred to be Matron at the girls’ boarding house, Guinevere in 1996.  Enid approached her role as a matron not as a job but as her life, and she created such strong bonds with pupils that she is still in contact with many of them today.  Pupils appreciated her motherly nature and Houseparents knew they could rely on her for the highest standards.

Enid’s connection with the school goes back even further, as she also attended Bellan House as a pupil.

While pupils and staff, past and present were sorry to see her go, she left with everyone’s best wishes for a long and happy retirement and promises to return for regular visits.  Her final day saw a collection of friends and colleagues, past and present joining her in a toast, and her contribution to the school will be officially recognised at the annual Speech Day on 4th July.
