The opposition, Wollaston School, having forfeited their match in the eagerly awaited semi-final of the U12 County Cricket Cup, saw Oundle’s cricketers in the final against Campion School in mid-September.

20160915 Final Cricket County Match Final for U14s Team 001Captain, William de Capell Brooke (12) commented, “We lost the toss but were more than happy to be put into bat. I opened with Arnie Gough (12) and we had a slow but steady start making around sixty-five runs without a wicket. Into eleven overs we felt the need to make more progress.”

The first wicket fell but strong consistent performances resulted in a final score of 172-2.

William added, “Thanks to a fantastic bowling performance from Will Park (11) we dispatched many of the opposition’s key players off very few runs which put them into a weak position with a long way to fight back.”

In the mid stages Campion staged a slight comeback, however Oundle were victorious by approximately 100 runs.

Oundle’s U14 cricketers played Northampton School for Boys (NSB) in their County Cup final held at Oundle Town Cricket Club.

Captain Tommy Simeons (14) commented, “We won the toss and chose to bat first. The opening batsmen made a forty-three partnership. Theodore Aubrey (14) followed and secured twenty-eight runs with Oundle finishing on 127 for 30 overs.”

Oundle came out after tea needing early wickets and Zac Atkinson (14) took three wickets in his six overs dismissing NSB’s key player. At one point NSB had lost 4 wickets for 0 runs and were eventually bowled out for forty-six.

Tommy concluded, “Oundle won by 81 runs which meant we were county champions. Later this year we will go on to compete in a national competition. This was a great end to a very good season.”

Head of Cricket, John Crawley commented, “A great overall Oundle performance secured the boys’ places in the National competition to be held in 2017.”
