Former pupil, George Chatterton from Oundle School has received an award from Cambridge International Examinations to acknowledge his outstanding performance, achieving the highest mark for Cambridge Pre-U Economics in the June 2016 examination series.

George Chatterton Pre-UGeorge, who is currently taking a Gap year in Australia, was among twenty-one pupils who achieved the highest marks in Cambridge Pre-U subjects. All award winners were rewarded with an official certificate from Cambridge recognising their achievement.

Head of Economics at Oundle School, Oliver Butterworth commented, “This achievement recognises the talent, dedication and commitment of George to Economics throughout his time studying the subject at Oundle. He was a member of a strong Pre-U cohort last year and it was of no surprise to me that he ended up securing the best result in the country as he is an exceptional Economist. Nevertheless I am delighted for him!”

Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Cambridge International Examinations said, “Congratulations to George Chatterton at Oundle School who has worked so hard to achieve this success in his Cambridge examinations. Given the quality of Cambridge Pre-U candidates, winning an award for the highest mark in a Cambridge Pre-U subject is evidence of a performance of the very highest calibre. On behalf of Cambridge International Examinations I offer sincere congratulations for this outstanding achievement.”

170 UK independent and state schools teach Cambridge Pre-U, which is recognised by universities in the UK and a growing number in the US, including all Ivy League colleges.

George was a member of the Oundle pupil team who won the Regional Heat of the Target Two Point Zero Bank of England and Times Interest Rate Challenge back in November.

Pupils at Oundle School performed exceedingly well in their 2016 Sixth Form examinations, with just under one in four grades being awarded A* or equivalent, continuing the School’s record of high achievement at this level.  10% of the grades for Pre-U subjects attracted the D1 grade, which represents a step above the equivalent A*.
