Oundle School BeijingWhen a group of Oundle School pupils set off for China on 13 October, none of them really knew quite what to expect.

Most of them had never been to China before, and had only studied the language for a couple of years –and here they were jetting off for eleven days of sightseeing and studying in the heart of Beijing!

Despite some initial apprehension, they settled in really well and explored the best of what Beijing and their host school had to offer.

Upper Sixth former, Henry Lee (17) commented, “The lessons were great; a fresh perspective on the language is always welcome and having lessons entirely conducted in Mandarin was a new experience for all of us! However I think we would all agree that the trips out held some of our favourite moments – you can talk about the sights of Beijing or even see pictures online, but it’s really nothing compared to experiencing them for yourself. Whether it was the hiking across Forbidden City, painting characters in the Summer Palace or driving Segways round the athletics track in the Olympic Stadium, each day was an experience we’re not going to forget. We’re going to miss that city, I think – hopefully it won’t be long before we can visit again.”
