David is a graduate of the MA Fine Art program at Chelsea College, London where his final show was listed as one of the ten best in the country by the former editor of Art Review. He was selected for inclusion in the Catlin Guide to the 40 important emerging artists in the UK in 2010, and subsequently became a finalist for the Catlin Art prize that year. He was also listed as one of The Independent's "Future Art Stars", and as one of the "Artists to Invest in Now" by Glass Magazine. He has most recently been shortlisted for the Matt Roberts Salon Art Prize, with the exhibition taking place in London during October.

As Artist-in-Residence at Oundle, he will be developing work at a variety of stages, including completing current projects and working on new pieces right from the beginning. This will allow students to get a glimpse of how a professional artist develops an idea into a completed form.
Head of Art, Jeremy Oddie, commented, ““It is an exciting prospect for us all in the Art department to have a professional artist working along side us and an important opportunity for our pupils to see an artist at work. Already many pupils have been talking to David about his work and how he develops his ideas and the techniques and the materials he uses. We are thrilled to have him here.”
Sculptor, David Smith commented, “I am delighted to be the Artist in residence here at Oundle School. After exhibiting at the Yarrow Gallery last November, I was keen to come back to Oundle and to work with the students, and staff, for a greater length of time.”

Upper Sixth Form pupil, Guy Hodgkinson commented, “I think it’s great to have David as artist in residence. He has done a Masters at Chelsea School of Art and his work is really strong. He has captured the imagination of a lot of the pupils and it’s always great to have a talented artist who can mix things up a bit, helping to expand our ideas.”
