Lower Sixth Form pupil at Oundle School, Jonny Wiles (16) has had his first book published. The book, entitled 'Wet Tuesday' – a Quirky Little Tale (Written on Wednesday), is available to purchase on Amazon.co.uk at a price of £4.99.

Jonny describes the book as a ‘stream of consciousness’ in the style of stand-up comedy but using the written word. Full of anecdotes, Jonny’s writing style may be compared to that of Stephen Fry – who Jonny considers to be his main influence. According to Jonny, his book is exactly what a bestselling book should be: it’s interesting, it’s factual, it’s relatable (hopefully), and it fits in with the stereotype of published works nowadays: self indulgent rubbish!
“If you’re looking for a book containing attempted comedy, useless information and shameless rip-offs, then this book is right up your street……..You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll cringe, and who knows? You might just learn something. Pity that anything you do learn will be utterly useless!” so says the book’s blurb!
Covering everything from the British postal system, African land snails, sell-by dates, tutting, the Edinburgh Festival, Johnny Cash, the Internet, fast food, cows and the Bible, Jonny’s novel is a fast-paced read.

Jonny commented, “I started writing the book in the back of a music textbook, and then a few friends read it and said that they had found it very funny and that I should keep writing, and six months later I had finished a full-length book. The book itself is essentially a thought process – full of what could be called satire comedy.”
Jonny’s tutor and Music Teacher, John Arkell commented, “About 8 months ago (on a Wet Tuesday) I caught Jonny writing furiously in the blank pages at the back of his GCSE music textbook during a lesson. A text book written by me! I asked to see his book! There I read some jottings for a novel. I recognised a real talent and encouraged him to pursue this writing (although not during my lessons!).”
Jonny is studying Drama, Italian, English and Spanish A’levels and hopes to study English and a language at university.
In ‘About the Author’, Jonny states his ultimate ambition is to act, or achieve fame by some other method that doesn’t involve him playing sports or being a genius!
