Oundle School ArtOver the October Exeat, two groups of Oundle pupils headed to New York as part of a joint art and drama trip.

Pupils Lucie Petrides (17) and Sarah Huckin (16) commented, “ Having taken the lift to the sixth floor of a high rise building on the middle of Broadway, in the centre of New York, some of us were wondering who we were going to meet. Michael Luggio talked to us about his career as an actor, director, screenwriter and teacher. He explained to us techniques and ways in which to overcome fear when on stage. These lessons were very inspiring and could be used in a practical setting rather than just in ‘make believe’ when on stage.”

After captivating pupils for nearly an hour, Michael asked Sarah and Lucie to perform a piece from their recent production, Find Me. The girls added, “Being directed by this talented man was a scary experience improved our acting immensely with just 5 minutes work. The whole workshop was a brilliant experience and a lot of fun. We were inspired by how hard Michael had to work and what he had been through to get where he is now and this motivated us further to exceed and excel in this area of our lives. “

The Sixth Form artists enjoyed their visit to New York, one of the major art capitals of the world. Conveniently stationed next to Grand Central Station, they visited a broad range of museums, from the Guggenheim (which featured an in-depth exploration of Picasso’s use of a black and white palette), The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum, The Frick Collection and the Whitney Museum.
