Oundle School pupil – Double selection at National level

Each year there are trials for the National team, bringing together hopefuls from the length and breadth of the country Oundle School national level double selectionto show their skills in practice matches and specific skills-based tests. 

The Under 16 age group is particularly popular, with over 250 of the nation’s players coming forward for the first round trials.

After a weekend of trials and assessment, a short list of candidates were invited back for a second trial.

Diana commented, “I was hopeful that I had done enough in the first trial to demonstrate that I deserved call back for the second trial, and was delighted to receive notification that I was indeed required. The second and final trial, held at Corby Academy on Sunday 25 November, lasted all day with the final tests undertaken as the sun dipped down over the horizon.”

With the country’s best players all vying for a coveted squad place, the competition was intense and the girls were packed off at the end of the day, leaving the selectors to ponder their choices.

It was therefore with immense relief, excitement and satisfaction that Diana received her selection letter, confirming Oundle School double salectionthat the Oundle Fifth former had been chosen for the 2013 season.

Diana was in the National Under 14 team, which she captained in her first year at Oundle.

Diana’s Housemaster, Tony Burrows commented, “I am delighted that Diana has been selected as part of the England U16 Rounders squad. Diana is a very talented and organised young lady who always gives of her best. She is a very strong academic and is on course for a very impressive haul of A*s at GCSE – she is quite an all rounder. “

Head of Girls’ Games, Ros Goatly added, “A great achievement for Di and we wish her all the best for a successful season with England rounders”

Diana has also been selected as part of the A squad for the British Pony Eventing Team 2012/13, containing 9 riders who have performed consistently well this season and will train over the winter to maximize their chances of selection for the team this coming season.
