Oundle School Violin Diploma Oundle School pupil, Arinah Rizal (17) has successfully passed Dip ABRSM examinations, a QCF Level 4 (undergraduate examination) worth 90 credits towards a full Degree (equivalent to part 1 of a University course) and achieved a Diploma in Violin.

Arinah’s programme was:
1. Bach’s Partita No.2 in D minor (Sarabande and Giga)
2. Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole (Scherzo)
3. Beethoven’s Spring Sonata (Allegro)
4. Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne (Introduzione and Gavotta)

She is currently in the Lower Sixth Form studying for A levels in Maths, Physics, Art and would like to study Architecture at University.

Arinah commented,

“I plan to continue playing violin in chamber groups and orchestras, and hopefully get to teach young children.”

Head of Strings, Angus Gibbon commented, “This is a major achievement for Arinah. Although she is aspiring towards studying Architecture at University she has just passed the equivalent of part 1 of a full Music degree. Arinah will be performing Svendson Romance with Oundle School Chamber Orchestra later in the year.”

The School’s partnership with The Royal College of Music was launched in January 2012 with a String Concert with all string players from Oundle School and Laxton Junior School performing alongside RCM String Band.

The aim of the partnership is to enable talented musicians from Oundle to work with RCM professors and students for the mutual benefit of both institutions.

Pupils from Oundle are invited to various masterclasses and workshops at RCM and highlights have included pupils attending rehearsals for Bruckner 8 taken by Bernard Haitink.

Events so far this academic year have included a Flute Masterclass and workshop by Simon Channing Head of Woodwind at RCM and the Chamber Orchestra are looking forward to a performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Francesca Dego, Italian violinist and ex RCM student as part of the School’s General Studies Programme.

Also in November, at the Voyager Academy Concert Hall in Peterborough, current RCM students will perform with Oundle School Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.

In the New Year, Oundle pupils will join RCM String Band in concert performing Elgar Introduction and Allegro and Holst St Pauls Suite and all Oundle’s string players, including Year 2 string players from Laxton Junior School will perform alongside the RCM String Band.

Professors from RCM will give masterclasses and judge the School’s annual Hepburn Music Competition in early February and in March, OSJO 1 and OSJO 2 will join the RCM Big Band in workshop and concert.

In May, Oundle School Orchestras and Ensembles will give a concert in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Royal College of Music, London.
