The Second Form (Year 8) day pupils at Oundle School enjoyed a sun-filled weekend in the North York Moors over the September Field Weekend.

Highlights included a trip to Fountains Abbey, swinging in the trees at Aerial Extreme, a ride (through Harry Potter's Hogsmeade Station of Goathland) on the North York Moors railway and walking up to the Bridestones on the Saturday and Sunday.

Trip organiser Mary James commented, “Boggle Hole Youth Hostel lived up to its spooky piratical image, and the food both there and at YHA Osmotherley was excellent.”

On Monday the group walked over the cliffs from Boggle Hole to Robin Hood's Bay and back along the beach, where they looked at coastal geography, flew kites and explored rockpools. A superb Harry Ramsden's fish and chips lunch was enjoyed in brilliant sunshine on Scarborough beach, and then they witnessed the beauty and strangeness of the fish at The Deep. It was a very tired group which arrived back in Oundle that evening, but they had had a very busy and enjoyable weekend.

In true Famous Five fashion, pupil, Henry Sleight (13) commented,
“The Field Weekend to North Yorkshire was epic- the highlights include a writhing adder blocking our path (ok …a slow worm but it had some great moves all captured on video!). We also discovered an un- exploded bomb on Boggle hole beach (yes! it really is called 'Boggle hole' and, no it was just a discarded rusty barrel!). We rock climbed and I carried home a quartz veined boulder (yes, we rock climbed but … ok, it wasn't a boulder … quite!). We worked in construction teams to build an award winning coastal development (ok – we built a sandcastle and won first prize of ice cream!). Thanks so much to the teachers and the driver – we had the best time, of course there's loads more I could say but…..”

Pupil, Lucy Baker (12) commented, “One of the best things was Mr Wake's famous bingo which was very competitive but very much enjoyed. Also the walk along the beach on the Monday morning was a lot of fun.”
