Five Loretto pupils have been offered places to study at Oxford and Cambridge next year.

Three pupils achieved offers to study history, mathematics and engineering at Oxford, with places on the latter two courses also offered to two Cambridge applicants.

Jonathan Hewat, director of communications at Loretto School, said: “Obtaining an offer of a place from Oxford and Cambridge is never easy.

“To get to that point requires a huge investment of energy and intellectual commitment over a long period of time.

“The Lorettonians who have been offered places deserve huge congratulations, just as those several who aimed high and put in the effort for a different result also deserve praise.

“This year has been very strong on the Oxbridge front and all those involved in the process – pupils and staff – have given the Loretto community much to be proud of.”

A further two pupils have been offered golf and hockey scholarships to study at Northwestern University, Illinois and St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia respectively.

The duo also achieved “excellent” SAT results to secure their places.

The school said that its students have currently achieved more than 180 offers to study a wide range of subjects at many Russell Group and highly-rated universities.
