We are delighted that our pupils have gained, in effect, 3 gold and one silver awards recently. Three of these successes were in sport and one in public speaking.
Our Senior basketball team retained the title of South Somerset League Champions winning all their matches in fine style.
James Bridge became the ISA National Under 14 Cross Country Champion when he represented the South West at the National finals held at Princethorpe School in Rugby. James won his race by 50m which was an amazing outcome considering he was running against all the other I.S.A. area champions!
Our ‘silver’ sporting success was achieved in hockey when our Under 16 boys travelled to Rugby School for the National Championship – our team did not lose a single match, but found themselves tied in first place with Trinity School, unfortunately, Trinity had scored one more goal than us in their matches and therefore our team had to be satisfied with being runners up due to goal difference.
Away from the sporting field, our Year 11 public speaking team gained a ‘gold’ award by becoming District Champions for the THIRD year in succession, they went on to win the Regional Final as well. Congratulations to Jeanette, Dominic and Ellen. On May 12th our successful trio will be in London, representing the South West in the National Finals of the ESU Public Speaking Competition. We are very proud of them and we know that they in turn will do us proud!
