Plymouth College IB resultsPlymouth College is celebrating its third set of International Baccalaureate (IB) results. This year’s top performing student was Maddalena Ardissino, an elite swimming scholar who swims internationally for Italy. Her score of 43 IB points is equivalent to 676 UCAS points or, in A level language, four A* and 1 A grades. Maddalena easily met her offer to read Medicine at the University of London. The maximum score in IB is 45.

Plymouth College Head Boy, Harry Cobbold, who lives in Plympton, attained 38 IB points which is the equivalent of more than 4 A* grades at A level. Harry has been accepted onto an internship with global management consultants, Accenture, before starting a degree course in 2014 at the University of Bath in Business Administration.

Overall, the Plymouth College average mark at IB was 32.3 points, which is the equivalent of more than three A*s at A level.

IB Co-ordinator at Plymouth College, Jonathan Shields, said: “We expect to see the IB go from strength to strength. It has an impressive track record in allowing our candidates to get into their first choice universities and this is a trend that will continue as the government makes top grades at A level increasingly harder to attain“.

The IB requires candidates to sit six subjects and complete a central core, which consists of an Extended Essay research project of 4000 words, a Theory of Knowledge course together with a Creativity, Action and Service commitment of 150 hours.
