Plymouth College celebrated the Chinese ‘Year of the Snake’ with a colourful and noisy procession around the Plymouth College Chinese New Year Snakeschool site. Students carried a giant snake made from willow and tissue-paper, and a variety of red lanterns with good luck messages in Chinese.

This year the procession was supported by a Chinese dragon and the Samba Band, a new after school activity lead by Dr Taylor.

The willow snake started as a Saturday boarding activity with students building the main structure. The tissue paper skin and colour were added during the after school club, ‘Willow Lantern Workshop’.

“This was the best Chinese New Year procession yet and every one had a really fun time”, said art teacher and workshop leader, Dana Roberts. “The best part was walking through the main school building and library with lots of drumming and noise. Thank you to everyone who helped. Kung Hey Fat Choi!”
