Plymouth College’s reputation for leading the way in business education has taken two more endorsements with a Young Enterprise Centre of Excellence accolade and the launch of the Entrepreneurial Society.

The Young Enterprise award is given to organisations that make a high-quality enterprise and entrepreneurship contribution to students through courses and initiatives.  Plymouth College has an unprecedented reputation for success in business competitions having won 15 national titles, including the UK Young Enterprise title in 2009.

On the back of this award, Plymouth College is launching an Entrepreneurial Society, an exciting new venture that will see a series of guest speakers help to bring business and economics alive for students.  In a drive to promote enterprise and leadership in young people, the diverse range of speakers includes:

Tim Martin, founder and MD Wetherspoons (12 November 2014)
Chris Dawson, entrepreneur and founder of The Range (27 January 2015)
James Brent, Chairman Plymouth Argyle (19 February 2015)
Neil Stallard, MD Alpha Logic (6 March 2015)
Gary Streeter, MP (date TBC)
Tim Slade, founder Fat Face (date TBC)

The talks will take place at lunchtimes, each one finishing with a Q&A session. As well as Plymouth College students, the talks are open to other local schools.  For more information and to book places, please contact Aaron Summons by email asummons@plymouth-college.co.uk

Other initiatives for Plymouth College students under the Entrepreneurial Society banner will include a Year 10 Enterprise Challenge in conjunction with Burts Chips and a Sixth Form project with Wrigley’s.

“These are really exciting times for our business students”, said Young Enterprise lead, Jonathan Shields.  “Having the opportunity to engage with successful business leaders and be involved in real life projects will really put our students ahead of the game – critical in an increasingly competitive educational environment.”
