Plymouth College Sixth Former, Phoebe Hirst, 18, has won a place at the National Youth Theatre (NYT).  The rigorous audition process involved a 3-hour session of ensemble work followed by an individual audition.

Nearly 5000 young people auditioned but less than 600 got in.  Phoebe will attend a two-week course in London in August.  She will then have the opportunity to audition for NYT productions in the West End and other parts of the country over the next year.

The talented actress has also gained her LAMDA Grade 8 Solo Acting this year, passing with Distinction.  For this she did ‘The Dolls House’ by Henrik Ibsen, ‘The School for Scandal’ by Richard Sheridan and ‘Adult Child Dead Child’ by Claire Dowie.

In addition, Phoebe has passed her Grade 8 Singing, performing ‘Habanera’ from Carmen, ‘Unusual Way’ from Nine, ‘Broadway Baby’ from The Follies and ‘Dear Delight’ by Michael Head.

Phoebe, from Newton Ferrers, is currently taking A Level exams in Maths, Economics, History and Politics. She will be taking a gap year then applying for university to read law. During her gap year she is going to work for an international law firm for eight months in Birmingham and then travel in South East Asia for three months.
