Plymouth College pupil wins Seven golds and a silver for Jamila in African Swimming Championships

Plymouth College elite swimmer and Olympian, Jamila Lunkuse, 16, has won seven gold and one silver medals at the Plymouth CollegeConfederation of Africa Swimming Championships held in Zambia.

Competing for Uganda, Jamila took on the top swimmers in her age group from across Africa to win the 50m breaststroke (competition record), 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m IM. Her silver medal was in the 50m freestyle.

As a result of her medal haul, which brought the Ugandan team’s total to 21, Jamila was awarded the Uganda Sports Press Association ‘Sports Personality of the Month’ accolade.

The Year 11 pupil, who competed for her country in London 2012, is now back at school and about to take her GCSEs.
