Budding rock stars got to team up with the real thing yesterday when former Boomtown Rats lead guitarist, Garry Roberts, hosted a guitar workshop at Plymouth College. Famous for hits ‘I don’t like Mondays’ and ‘Rat Trap’, Garry still tours with fellow band member and drummer, Simon Crowe.
Taking a break from performing, Garry spent the morning putting young musicians of all abilities and ages through their paces with a series of one-to-one and group sessions. As well as practical advice and demonstrations on playing the guitar, he was able to share his extensive knowledge of the music industry.
“I had a really good morning”, said Year 10 pupil, Harry McEleny. “It was great to hear a real rock star play and a lot of fun hearing about his opinions of music. I learned a lot.”
