Plymouth College Annabel Kennedy MusicPlymouth College student, Annabel Kennedy, 18, has been offered a place to read Vocal Studies at the Royal College of Music. The mezzo-soprano will take up her place on the Bachelor of Music degree course at the prestigious South Kensington conservatoire in the autumn.

As one of the top music institutions in the world, the Royal College of Music sees thousands apply each year for only a handful of places across a range of music disciplines.  Well known alumni include classical singer Alfie Boe, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and guitarist John Williams.  Former Plymouth College pupil and opera singer, David Webb, was also a Royal College of Music scholar.

Initially Annabel’s principal interest was dancing, attending Italia Conti in Plymouth and Danceworks in Ottawa when her family lived in Canada.  It wasn’t until Annabel was about 12 that her love for music, and in particular singing, came to the fore.

Annabel has been involved in many concerts and productions, including a season in the Theatre Royal pantomime and Music of the Night at the Citadel. She also attended the residential, Eton Choral Course, in the summer of 2013.

Annabel is currently studying for A Levels in Music, English and Art.

“I am incredibly excited to be going to the Royal College of Music,” said Annabel.  “Singing is my passion and to be able to study at such an iconic conservatoire, with the very best vocal teachers in the world, is a fantastic opportunity.”
