Plymouth College Swimmer: Shauna Lee, 18

Plymouth College swimmer, Shauna Lee, 18, is joining five of Britain’s brightest swimming prospects in Tokyo next week as part of a development squad with an eye on the 2020 Olympics.

The Sixth Former, who swims for Plymouth Leander, will compete for Great Britain in the Japan Open.  Freestyler, Shauna, hopes that this will open the door to more international meets.

“I’m really excited to have been chosen,” said Shauna.  “This will be my first proper experience with GB and it will definitely be my first experience of going to Japan – I have always wanted to go there!”

Sending this team to Japan is part of a new British Swimming philosophy aimed at providing greater opportunities and experience for young athletes.

“By competing at events such as the Japan Open we hope to nurture a group of robust athletes,” said Tim Jones, Head of Performance Pathway for Swimming. “They will gain valuable experience travelling together as a team and taking part in international competitions.”
