Plymouth College swimmer, Sidonie McLaren, 13, has been selected to swim for the Isle of Wight in the 2013 Plymouth College bermuda swimmerIsland Games in July. Sid will travel to Bermuda for the international event which sees 25 different islands compete in 14 sports.

The inter-island games started in 1985 with the intention of bringing together a number of small islands from different parts of the world in friendly competition.

Running every two years the Games involves athletes from as far afield as Scandinavia, the British Isles, the Mediterranean and the Southern Atlantic.

More than 2,300 athletes took part in the last Games held on the Isle of Wight in 2011.

"This is a great opportunity for Sid at such a young age," said Plymouth College Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd. "The Games have a great feel good factor and will stand her in good stead for future international competitions."

Sid is not the first swimmer from Plymouth College to take part in the Games. Former pupils Grant Halsall and Heather Millar represented the Isle of Man while they were still at school.
