Plymouth College came away from a gruelling day of rugby Sevens at the Devon U18 tournament, winning all Plymouth College Devon 7 championssix of their pool and knockout fixtures.

Pool victories were achieved against Petroc, Tavistock College and Exeter School, meaning Plymouth were drawn against Shebbear College in the quarter-final.

A secure 31-10 victory meant a semi-final against Blundell’s School, which turned into a see-saw battle that wasn't decided until the last whistle. Plymouth emerged winners, however, and a standout display by Ollie Clenaghan sent Plymouth into the final against Exeter College.

The final was another tense match which saw Plymouth take a 14-0 lead. Exeter battled back to 14-14, resulting in sudden death overtime. Both teams were showing fatigue, but player of the tournament, Ollie Clenaghan, broke free to score the deciding points and seal the title for Plymouth College.

Plymouth College Director of Rugby, Richard Edwards, said: “This was a great team effort and all players should take great pride in their achievement.

“Minds will, no doubt, now be focused on the Daily Mail Vase quarter-final against Tiffin School, which is taking place on Wednesday 13 February, 2.30 p.m. at Delgany.”
