Regional sailing squad for brothers

Plymouth College Sailing Bertie Alex RatseyPlymouth College pupils, Alex (Year 8) and Bertie Ratsey (Year 9) have been selected for the RS Feva S/SW Zone RYA Race Training Squad. The boys made the team after competing in qualification regattas in Torbay and at the Olympic Sailing venue in Weymouth.

The South/South West squad is made up of sailors from Chichester up to Oxford, along to Bristol and down to Land’s End and back – a large area with some key sailing hot spots. It is likely that the squad will be made up of seven boats. The sailors have to be under the age of 15 and there are two places allocated for sailors under 13 years.

The purpose of the zone squads (the UK is split into 3 zones for the RS Feva) is to feed talented sailors into the RYA UK Junior Squad Programmes at the appropriate age and ability, to enable them to succeed at World and European Championships at Junior and Youth Level.

Alexander and Bertie are both members of Plymouth College’s Sailing Club partnership with the Royal Western Yacht Club.
