Surgeon Commander is special guest at awards evening
Surgeon Commander, Anthony Lambert OBE, was the special guest at Plymouth College’s Senior Awards Evening, held at Plymouth Guildhall. The independent school’s annual prize-giving event recognises and celebrates the academic and extra-curricular achievements of senior pupils.
Former Plymouth College pupil, Anthony, works in the Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit and Derriford Hospital. He has seen active service during the Iran-Iraq conflict, the first Gulf War and during the period of unrest in the former Yugoslavia and Bosnia. More recently, he has been deployed in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded an OBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours list for his charitable work, which supports injured servicemen and women and children undergoing surgery at Derriford Hospital. Anthony organises the annual rugby match between the Royal Marines and the Medical Students of the Peninsula Medical Schools, in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
Anthony presented the prizes and gave an engaging talk to the gathered audience of current sixth form, 2014 leavers, staff, families and friends about making the most of the cards dealt, working hard and not giving up on goals. The evening also included an extract from the recent school production ‘Histrionics’ and a powerful performance of ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ by Annabel Kennedy.
