Before the tragic series of earthquakes which have hit Nepal, Prior’s Field’s first form raised money to install a fresh water tap in the village of Gumda. This had just been installed three weeks before the disaster. Older students were also due to travel to Nepal to work in a local orphanage near Bakra in July this year.
Not to be defeated in their efforts, first year leader Mrs Rachel Troup put on her thinking cap and set the girls the task of raising a mountain of support by encouraging pupils, parents and staff to empty their pockets and fill-up an outline of the Himalayas, which was drawn onto sheets across the length of the Sports Hall. On Thursday 7 May, the girls had just twenty minutes to create the Himalayas from their handfuls of coins and the results were breath-taking! The counting took about 3 hours and the total raised was nearly £900, with one parent’s company offering to match the total raised by pupils.
The fund-raising won’t stop there – the Head Girl and her Deputies are now organising a 24 hour sponsored swim at the school and boarders ran a very successful cake sale.
