On Friday 11 November, Professor Sir Anthony Coates will visit Queen Margaret’s in York to address an audience of students in what has been tipped to be a ‘significant learning opportunity’ for them.

Professor Coates is one of the world’s leading scientists and researchers into combatting the threat posed by antibiotic resistance and, at a time when the Chief Medical Officer has been quoted as saying ‘antibiotic resistance is as serious as climate change’, that threat is very real. He has previously contributed to discussion about antibiotic discovery on Channel Five News and the BBC News.

This is one of only two dates confirmed nationally where Professor Coates will deliver his lecture entitled ‘Will Antimicrobial Resistance Lead to the End of Modern Medicine?’ As such, Queen Margaret’s will also be sharing the occasion with students from St Peter’s School, York.

Queen Margaret’s Head, Jessica Miles, stated “We feel incredibly privileged to welcome Professor Coates to Queen Margaret’s and are delighted to invite students from St Peter’s School to benefit from this unique opportunity as well. After their all-girls education, many of our students go on to study STEM subjects at university and so to be able to hear from such an esteemed and influential scientist will be extremely beneficial for them”.
