Pupil Film Nominated in 10 Shot Film Awards 2023

A short film made by Year 9 pupils at Bishop’s Stortford College as been nominated in the 10 Shot Film Awards 2023.

A short film created by Year 9 pupils from Bishop’s Stortford College has been nominated by the Young Film Academy, as part of the 10 Shot Film Awards 2023.

The Young Film Academy is the UK’s leading provider of film education for young people aged six to 19. It offers pupils the chance to learn all aspects of the filmmaking process from screenwriting, fight choreography and film history to camerawork and editing, through a one-day workshop, One Day Film School.

The 10 Shot Film Awards, which launched this year, celebrates filmmaking excellence in UK schools and shortlists the best two-minute films produced by pupils. Recognising originality combined with technical filmmaking skills, the awards provide a platform to showcase emerging talent and encourage young people to pursue a career in the British film industry. All 10 Shot Films must be planned, filmed and edited within two hours.

Commenting on the nominations, Oliver Murley, Teacher of English at Bishop’s Stortford College said, “We are delighted that a Year 9 short film, An Eye for an Eye, has been nominated in the inaugural 10 Shot Film Awards. 125 schools participated in workshops this year, with over 1,000 short films made by 10,000 Year 7 to Year 12 pupils, so to be shortlisted in the final 10 of the Year 7 to 9 category, is a huge achievement.”

Murley continues, “The One Day Film School workshop is a great opportunity for our Year 9 pupils to experience all aspects of film making and discover talents in new areas. Many subsequently go on to study Film Studies at A Level, which this year saw 100% of College students gain A*-B grades.”

The winners of the 10 Shot Film Awards will be announced on 4 December 2023 on onedayfilmschool.com.
