Tom Evans and Will Simpson nominated for the Shropshire Outstanding Citizen Award 2017Two pupils from Oswestry School recently attended the awards ceremony for the High Sheriff of Shropshire’s Outstanding Young Citizenship Award 2017.

Sixth Form student Will Simpson and 1st Form pupil Tom Evans attended the prize giving held on Monday 20th March at Shrewsbury College.  In front of a packed audience the High Sheriff, dressed in ceremonial splendour, praised the work of young people across the county in bringing about positive change to their communities.

Will was singled out for his voluntary contributions at Shropshire Sailing club, for his scouting, and for his enthusiastic embrace of all things CCF (Combined Cadet Force).  Tom Evans had been nominated for his outstanding charity work, including his pink sheep and Christmas cards in aid of Cancer Research, following the diagnosis of his grandmother with pancreatic cancer and being so touched by the excellent care that she received.  So far he has raised donations in the region of £20,000.  He was also chosen because of his personal success.  Among other plaudits, he was crowned Junior Young Shepherd of 2016 and awarded Young Handler of the year by the Kerry Hill Flock Society for the third year running.  He has featured on television in a documentary for BBC2 Wales and widely in local media, television and newspapers.
